Signed movie memorabilia is indeed a treasure that can be worth quite a bit of money when in the right hands. It’s important to understand that not all signed items are going to be worth the same amount, so giving flat values is not the best way to go about finding the value of the piece. The worth of signed movie memorabilia depends on what type of item it is, how clear the signature is and if its authenticity can be certified.
The most common signed memorabilia in circulation today is photographs, DVD covers and posters. While there are all very exciting pieces to own, they would be on the lower side of the value scale. Items that are in some way relative to how a star is remembered is more valuable, such as an autographed pirate sword signed by Johnny Depp or a basketball signed by Michael Jordan. What’s even more valuable is a signed prop that was actually used in the movie itself, but be cautious as this is where it is important to authenticate the item.
Most signed photographs fall in the range of $125 to $150 when sold online. The rule of thumb is the bigger the star, the more valuable an autographed picture is. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt would fall into the $150 range. Signed movie posters are a little more bringing in around $250. This number will change depending on the popularity of the movie. If a movie is relatively unknown than the poster, even signed, won’t be worth more than $50. Valuing items of great value is more tricky. If someone has such a treasure it would be wise to take it into a professional evaluator and get a good quote as to its value.
